Thank you for enrolling your child in our annual Summer Arts Academy this year!
We would like to welcome any new students joining us for the first time and for our returning students…welcome back!! Please find valuable information below to prepare your child for the first day of camp.
Daily Arrival at BISFA
- We ask that each child be accompanied into Barbara Ingram School for the Arts for the first day of camp by their parent or guardian.
- Several parking garages/lots are within walking distance for the first day and any other day where you may need to escort your child in or out of the school. Parking is free before 9:00 AM in the Central Parking Lot.
- You can drop off your student in front of the building either by car or can walk to the building Tuesday-Thursday. Staff will be there to welcome students daily.
- Doors will open 30 minutes prior (8:30 a.m.) to the start of camp each day. Please do not drop your child off before this time since the building will be locked. Please have your student there by 8:55 a.m., so the Academies can start promptly at 9:00 a.m.
- Students will enter the building each day through the lobby (look for our sign on the sidewalk in front of the entrance). They will check in with staff and then wait in the cafeteria until the instructor/intern comes to take them to their classroom.
Dismissal
- Pick-up time for half day academy is promptly at 12:00 p.m., and full day academy is promptly at 4:00 p.m.
- Students will need to remain inside in the lobby area until their parent/guardian arrives to pick them up. Should your child be allowed to walk home at the end of their session, you will need to provide a note in writing, stating they have your permission to walk home.
- All students must be dropped off/picked up in front of the school along South Potomac Street. Please pull up as far as you can in front of the school/The Maryland Theatre for drop-off and pick-up.
Dress Code/Phones
- Please dress in comfortable and appropriate school attire. It tends to be a little chilly in some of the classrooms and the cafeteria, so make sure your student brings a sweatshirt or sweater. Students will receive a name lanyard to wear daily and a camp shirt. Instructors may ask the students to wear the shirts on a specific day and will send out information.
- Dance Academy Students: Please wear jazz/dance pants or capris (no shorts) – black preferred, form fitting tank top (no bulky t-shirts) – black or solid colors only. Students should bring ALL their dance shoes.
- Students can bring phones with them as long as they are responsible for them and respectful of their use in the classroom during the academy.
Meals & Drinks
- Please have your student bring a water bottle each day. Filling stations are available throughout the school.
- All full-day academy students will need to bring their lunch daily. Please include an ice pack as there is no refrigeration for lunches. There is a microwave available in the cafeteria for students to use. Lunch will run from 12:00-12:45 p.m. each day.
Other
- Each program runs Monday – Thursday. There are NO Friday sessions.
- Most of the academies will host a small recital/showcase for family and friends on Thursdays around 3:00 p.m. Detailed information will come home with your student at the beginning of the week.
- The Barbara Ingram Foundation will offer a few informational tours of the school throughout the summer. Stay tuned for dates, times and more details!
